In the heart of historic Point Chevalier, this project is a synergy of old and new, using modern design techniques to protect a slice of Auckland’s history and create a community of terraced houses.
A heritage protected shop to the front has been meticulously maintained, while the four homes behind honour the neighbourhood with a modern twist, creating a site that reflects the city’s need to change for the future, while honouring the past.
The development is now a synergy of old and new. Four three-bedroom townhouses to the back of the site use modern technology to employ simple yet bold architectural forms that reference the surrounding neighbourhood with a contemporary twist. At the front, the heritage listed shop was carefully maintained and refreshed, keeping it true to its original form and honouring its importance to the streetscape.
Taking advantage of the site’s northern and western exposure, natural light is drawn into the living, entertaining and bedroom areas of each home. Strong roof forms and contrasting colour palettes on the exterior contribute a modern and unique aesthetic that fits seamlessly into historic Point Chevalier.
